THE CONCEPT:
The toys are composed of many different species of wood. As an alternative to cheap plastic toys and painted, artificial colors, the wood species creates the compositions of contrasting colors and simple patterns that the newborn baby can see.

Additionally, the toys brings the different FSC-certified woods from Tanzania into focus, and encourages to sustainable debates from the beginning. The specific selection of wood is not predetermined (it is possible to use the wood you have available) as long as the wood has different colours. I have used ash, oak and maghogny in my prototypes.

All wood is treated with neutral vaseline oil, and can therefore be mouthed by your baby.

Reaching out for toys stimulates the baby’s development of eye-hand coordination.

Formulation of the problem
When the candidates for confirmation are going to choose how to enjoy themselves on their Blue Monday it happens about half a year before it actually takes place. Many classes in Jutland can choose between Aarhus, Aalborg or a visit to an action park. The pupils have to search for information about the possibilities. Not until they choose Aarhus, get into contact with City-Aarhus, they have the booklet “Blue Monday in Aarhus” sent to their addresses. The booklet has many fantastic suggestions for celebrating a Blue Monday in Aarhus and the City Association would like to send the booklet to all the candidates – but this is not an economical possibility.

Description of the solution
We want to influence and inform the candidates for confirmation about Aarhus as the right place to choose. This can be done in many ways. We want to make a poster which can be placed in the school canteen. In this way the pupils can be aware of the fact that Aarhus is the place where their Monday off will be just great! Finally the layout for the poster, the booklet and the following map should be the same, to combine the three kinds of information.

The publication “Creative Industries” explores the tensions in the creative environments in Aarhus – from emerging small entrepreneurs, to large international business successes.

The study gives an insight in the potential of the city, and statements from the local creatives on how to make Aarhus a better and more creative city.

Subsequently, it was handed to the mayor, the alderman at Culture- and Community service center, the City Architect in Aarhus, and the project manager at “Aarhus 2017″.

The publication is a cooperation between the students at Studio Design.

Think Twice description: “How can we recycle materiales in new pieces of furniture? 27 suggestions from Kolding School of Design and Aarhus School of Architecture participate in the exhibition – and competition – with furniture made of materials from another production, from an old product or from packaging materials.”

We all know the frustration when a single card in a deck of playing cards is missing. Most card games require that all 52 cards are present, and it is impossible to make or replace the missing cards yourself – it will easily be identified. If one card is missing, there is often nothing else to do but throwing the rest out or buying a new deck – despite the fact that the remaining 51 cards basically are all right.

If you combine the remaining cards with a socket from an old, unwanted lamp, you have developed a new ceiling light with a different and personalized lamp shade. The composition of the lamp shade symbolizes a house of cards – and the cards can be placed in several different ways, giving the lamp many different expressions.

It consists of a towel rack, a shelf and a toilet paper holder. They come in two versions, one regular and one with a handle to grab and hold on to, in case of a risk of falling.

FIT

FIT is a bedside table, that helps the disorganised to keep track of ex. the coffeecup in the morning or the goodnight stories at night.

FIT also has a drawer, to store more personal belongings.

Instead of changing the current walkingflow, the designs should adapt to them. We wanted to ceate a coherent walking and relaxing flow through LilleTorv and StoreTorv, and intensify the passage through them.

Space in space
By creating smaller spaces, different kinds of plateaus, we activated the wide space, and created new oppertunities to sit down to stay and relax. The levels also makes room for ex. parkour and a Jazz scene.

Then we made a lighting solution, in the form of Building Blocks. If you combine several lightingblocks, you can create different funktions ex. a lamp, a bench, a canopy.

The passage
We also created a sense of narrowing, both vertically and horizontally, in the passage between Lille Torv and Store Torv. As a result, there is an increased focus on “Borgporten”, because the passage is easier to understand.

This helps the students to keep focus during class, since they, among other things, does not need to constantly ask the pedagogues what to do, which is also distracting the other students.

The icon for the module in question is shining, and thereby shows how far the students is in today’s schedule. The modules that are over are turned off, and the subsequent modules shine with half strength.

The pictograms are mounted on a box. It contains the mechanism that controls how long each icon is shining, which is installed from a computer via the USB socket. You can open the lid on the pictogram box so it is easy to change the icons, if You, for
example, want to rearrange some of them.

Additionally, I changed the furniture in the classroom, so the students are inspired to
play and to be in contact with each other during break. The furniture also strengthens
the passage from the classroom to the adjacent atrium so the students will start
using it. This strengthens the students social intercourse with each other, which
ultimately helps to an increased concentration during class.
